Golf and country club

About Us

You can take a step back in time and enjoy the benefits of the present as a member of Winton Country Club. This is what we mean by our slogan “where history meets fun”. The exceptional Winton golf course is open to the public, and, be assured, the golf course is a favorite from Lynchburg to Charlottesville.

We will proudly share our historical record, which stands steadfast within the incredible history of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Most significantly, Patrick Henry’s mother, Sarah Winston Syme Henry, lived at Winton and is buried in the cemetery on the grounds. The recorded history of the property goes all the way back to a land grant in the early 1700′s. The current Winton Country Club is the result of a bequest of Mr. Keene C. Brown. He gave the property to the County of Amherst under the condition that the property be leased to a corporation and operated as a private membership club. Winton Country Club was incorporated in 1967 and continues to operate under a long-term lease from Amherst County. The original Manor House is on the list of National Historical Places.

We at Winton are grateful for our heritage but are mindful of our present and future. We have a fantastic community of members and friends. We have every amenity that a country club should have. Yet we are open and welcoming to all. Southern Hospitality is the order of the day.

Join us. Play golf with us. Break bread with us. Swim and play tennis with us. We stand aside for no one in our ability to welcome all. Our club is the first choice for many who want a country club to join, who want a great golf experience, who demand a first-class location for a one-of-a-kind celebration, and who desire a place where history meets fun. Come join us at Winton Country Club.
