The Full Story

The Sarah Henry Manor, which is on the national register of historical buildings, was built in 1769 prior to the Revolutionary War. Sarah Winston Syme Henry, the mother of Patrick Henry, lived at Winton from 1779 to 1784, when she moved there with her daughter, Jane, wife of Samuel Meredith. Sarah is buried with several other family members in a brick wall enclosed cemetery near the 18th green of Winton’s Golf Course. Rumor has it that Patrick Henry visited during the American Revolution and hid from the enemy in a pile of hay.

In 1967, Winton Manor became the home for Winton Country Club. This registered historical house with such beautiful grounds is an amazing location for special occasions such as wedding receptions, bridal showers, and family reunions, as well as corporate meetings, retreats, and training.

Brittiany Mossy who was married on the Winton property says: “When it came to deciding where I would hold my wedding, there was no question about it. I spent every summer since I was 7 years old at Winton. It’s where I learned to dive, forged lasting friendships and spent Fourth of July and birthdays with my family. These memories, coupled with the gorgeous green landscapes and beautiful Blue Ridge mountain background made my wedding day perfect.”

Attached to the Winton Manor is a full service banquet facility featuring a large ballroom and patio. This spacious room complete with a large fireplace is surrounded by golf course and mountain views and can host up to 150 seated and 250 standing for your next special event. Our chef and staff will work with you to create a wonderful menu and atmosphere. The magnificent porch overlooking the fairway is the ideal spot to watch the sunset and set up an outdoor bar for your group. Ample parking and handicap access is available.
